The Finger PART II

As you might remember I wrote about my terrible experience with Native Instruments on this post, regarding their new product “The Finger“.

Last Friday,  I found another e-mail from NI’s Product Designer Matt Jackson on my mailbox, telling me that the new installer, that doesn’t require any Kore Product to be installed in order for “The Finger” to work, as it was originally advertised, was ready for download.

Not only that, but I also found a comment from Tim Exile on the afore mentioned post telling me the same.

This has shown me two important things regarding  and this whole process:

1. The company was fast in understanding the mistake that it had made and  acted swiftly to solve it.Two  days, after I wrote my post about what was happening, there was a new installer available for those, like me, that didn’t need/want an extra product installed on their machines. This is positive and I can only say that it has surprised me in a very good way.

2. Never underestimate the power of a single user that knows what he wants and uses the tools at his disposal to talk about the situations that affect him. Communicate, use the social media tools at your disposal, engage others in the discussion and you will get more visibility to your problem and, probably, a faster solution.

You must be asking: “Is Fernando at peace with Native Instruments now?”

The truth is: I am not. I am still to understand how a company, that was made what it is today by a legion of self appointed evangelists, failed to understand a priori that they should not false advertise something on their website.  Financial survival of a company, on these difficult times,  should not be made by forgetting about their base and origins: on the contrary. Those that have believed in your company, since the beginning, will be the ones that will keep your revenue if you just take  the effort to know what they want. I for one, want Reaktor  6, but everyone knows that ;-)

That said, I now have “The Finger” installed as an ensemble and I will be testing it out and uploading the results here. I have given NI another chance, mostly because of the effort that Matt , and Tim Exile himself, took to sort this situation out for me and all others. Companies are also made of people and these two quickly understood what the problem was and worked on a solution. I thank you both for that.

  • So you got what you wanted, and you’re still not happy?

    • I thought I was clear enough on my post about what my position is. It is not a matter of being happy or unhappy.

  • Fernando, thanks for the update on the situation. Glad to hear that the software issue got sorted and that you can use the product now :)

  • I agree that companies fail big time when they are misleading (intentionally or not) on their website or promotional material. SSL have been shocking with the history of their Duende product, and never list game-killing faults on their site. I have zero trust for them.
