The Power of Twitter

If you are a frequent reader of this blog you know about my love/hate relationship with the micro-blogging service Twitter.

Twitter has its ups (few) and downs (many) but in one thing I have to give it credit: It never stops to amaze me.

Yesterday I was, once again, surprised by it: Apple has about to present its  (in)famous “Apple Keynote”. Twitter has boiling with rumours, expectations, discussions. Mostly rumours and discussions. (You know how Apple fans are, right?)

But see, the problem with Apple is that they don’t stream their Keynotes live,  like Nokia does and everyone on Twitter was trying to find *that* link that it would take them to some website where they actually could see the whole thing LIVE for the first time.

Then a message on Twitter shows up coming from UStream:”Hey #AppleKeynotes (AppleKeynotes live > http://ustre.am/5WaP)“. More messages  followed and from 0 to 2000 viewers it took less than 10m.As the countdown, on the screen approached 0,  more and more people gathered to see this:

And nothing but this.

You have already noticed, as I did, that “Please subscribe to www.youtube.com/arnolddisco” but if you visit that YouTube page it doesn’t look at all like a company is behind it.

How, on a first analysis, a kid can generate such a Viral movement should have lots of companies thinking about how they are applying their online strategies and how much money they are being charged to make them.

After all, 4000 people watching for 2m a screen, with your message,  is priceless.
