Two remixes for @KieronJames
These ones have been sitting on my desk for quite a while and last night I had the time frame (and inspiration) to finish them. These tracks, to be released by PublicSpaces Lab soon, are a challenge from Kieron James after making a project called “Cosecha – The Random Sound“. The challenge was one: use nothing but the original file to make a remix. For my project QuarterBit this was, without a doubt, something very interesting: It would allow me to take a fil, that was built via a data gathering process and feed it to something that is mathematical but also personal. Kieron, apart from being an amazing musical talent, is also a runner. Yes, he is one of those guys that likes to run. (Why? I have no idea. I respect it but it just looks way too stressful to me). And not only he runs but he also posts on his website about his runs. And on those posts you have data. Raw data.
It was exactly that data that I used to program my Max/Msp patches. I also used geographical data (altitude, latitude and longitude) to feed into the system.
The result is this extremly loud and noisy remix. Use headphones wisely or scare your entire neighborhood. tlhIngan maH!
Cosecha (Forget about the dog! Hurt my ears! QuarterBit rmx) by QuarterBit
But there is more. The process of making QuarterBit’s remix for Kieron, got me confronted with sounds that I kept aside, because they sounded interesting to me. I decided to take those sounds, treat them and put them into Ableton Live to see what happened. The first was what you will recognise as the bass line. Slightly panned it is a glitchy sound that has a groove to it that surprised me and made me enthusiastic enough to make it into a full track.
Beware! Old school glitch minimal track

I LOVE THEM (BOTH). Absolutely ?????
Definitely worth the wait. Isn’t it fantastic what crazy results a few numbers yield. You’ve really done the Cosecha project proud. Many thanks to you, Quarterbit and Katsumoto. Quite the trio.
“Absolutely ?????” Are you sure Kieron? Something you want to tell me?
Sorry, the Japanese characters didn’t show up! It should read Absolutely Fabulous.
